Artikel ini membahas bagaimana Mendeley membantu peneliti, mahasiswa, dan akademisi dalam membuat daftar pustaka otomatis. Disusun dengan struktur 5W1H, tabel perbandingan, contoh nyata, keunggulan–kekurangan, serta referensi dari Scopus-indexed journals dan books (2019–2024).

1. What (Apa Itu Daftar Pustaka Otomatis di Mendeley?)

Mendeley adalah reference manager yang dikembangkan oleh Elsevier dan banyak digunakan dalam penelitian akademik. Fitur utamanya adalah membuat sitasi dan daftar pustaka otomatis di Microsoft Word atau LibreOffice. Dengan plugin Mendeley Cite, penulis bisa langsung menyisipkan kutipan di teks, lalu sistem secara otomatis menuliskan daftar pustaka sesuai gaya yang dipilih (APA, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver, dll.).

Menurut Eijkelboom & Mol (2020), penggunaan reference manager seperti Mendeley meningkatkan efisiensi penulisan hingga 40% karena mengurangi kesalahan teknis dalam format kutipan.

Pengguna Mendeley mencakup berbagai kalangan akademik:

  • Mahasiswa → untuk skripsi, tesis, dan disertasi.

  • Institusi & Perpustakaan → melatih mahasiswa menggunakan reference manager.

3. When (Kapan Fitur Daftar Pustaka Otomatis Digunakan?)

Fitur ini digunakan sepanjang siklus penulisan ilmiah:

  • Saat penulisan proposal → untuk sitasi teori dan metodologi.

  • Selama analisis data → menambahkan rujukan metode analisis.

  • Saat menulis hasil dan diskusi → menyisipkan penelitian terdahulu.

  • Tahap akhir → Mendeley secara otomatis menyusun daftar pustaka di bagian akhir.

Menurut Zhang & Yu (2021), mahasiswa yang menggunakan Mendeley sejak tahap awal penulisan menghasilkan skripsi lebih konsisten secara format dibanding yang menulis manual.

4. Where (Di Mana Mendeley Digunakan?)

Mendeley bisa digunakan di berbagai platform:

  • Mendeley Desktop/Reference Manager → untuk manajemen pustaka.

  • Mendeley Cite (Word Plugin) → untuk sitasi otomatis di Microsoft Word.

  • Mendeley Web Library → mengakses pustaka via browser.

  • Mobile App → membaca dan memberi highlight PDF dari smartphone.

Contoh: Dosen di Universitas Gadjah Mada menggunakan Mendeley Cite di Microsoft Word untuk memastikan artikel jurnal yang ia tulis sudah sesuai dengan gaya APA 7th edition.

5. Why (Mengapa Daftar Pustaka Otomatis Penting?)

Daftar pustaka otomatis penting karena:

  1. Efisiensi → menghemat waktu dibanding mengetik manual.

  2. Konsistensi → format sitasi selalu sesuai standar.

  3. Akurasi → meminimalkan kesalahan penulisan nama, tahun, atau judul.

  4. Fleksibilitas → mudah mengganti gaya sitasi (APA → Chicago) dengan sekali klik.

  5. Integrasi → terhubung langsung dengan database Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar.

Menurut Ali et al. (2022), penggunaan reference manager membuat artikel lebih cepat diproses editor karena kesalahan sitasi berkurang signifikan.

6. How (Bagaimana Cara Membuat Daftar Pustaka Otomatis di Mendeley?)

Langkah-langkah dasar:

  1. Instal Mendeley Reference Manager dan plugin Mendeley Cite di Word.

  2. Tambahkan referensi → impor artikel dari Scopus, PubMed, atau manual.

  3. Sisipkan kutipan → di Word klik “Insert Citation” dan pilih sumber.

  4. Generate daftar pustaka otomatis → klik “Insert Bibliography,” sistem akan menampilkan daftar pustaka sesuai gaya sitasi.

  5. Edit gaya sitasi → ganti ke APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, atau lainnya sesuai kebutuhan.

  4. Ada learning curve awal bagi pengguna baru (Huang et al., 2020).

Mahasiswa S3 di bidang ekonomi menggunakan Mendeley untuk menulis disertasi 300 halaman. Dengan lebih dari 400 referensi, daftar pustaka otomatis mempermudah pekerjaannya. Ia cukup klik sekali untuk mengganti format APA ke Chicago sesuai aturan jurnal target.
