Download Smart Cities Here

To better understand the unique analytical approach taken by the contributors of this volume, it is helpful to revisit how the concept of the smart city first emerged. Around 2008, major technology firms—particularly CISCO and IBM—sought to expand their markets by offering digital solutions tailored to help cities manage infrastructure more efficiently. IBM introduced the use of the term “smart” to describe cities and regions managed through sensor-driven software systems. This initiative resonated with local leaders—especially mayors—who were grappling with increasing administrative and logistical challenges. In France, for instance, cities like Montpellier and Nice became early adopters, testing these innovations through collaborative projects with CISCO and IBM. As cities began to generate vast amounts of digital data, awareness grew about the strategic value of this information, further fueling enthusiasm for the smart city model. This momentum also opened the door for new pl...

Download Brain and Human Body Modeling 2020 Here

Abstraction has long been a valuable tool for scientists and engineers to simplify and understand complex systems. This approach has brought significant progress across various fields. For instance, beginner electrical engineering students are introduced to resistance by ignoring factors like heat conduction, wire induction, and capacitance, which would otherwise complicate their understanding of this key concept. Similarly, physics students often first study falling objects by considering only the effect of gravity and disregarding air resistance, making it easier to grasp the basic principles of motion. In computer engineering, the initial study of operational amplifiers assumes ideal conditions such as infinite open-loop gain and input resistance, no current draw, and uniform bandwidth—assumptions that are not true in practice but help simplify early learning before delving into more complex realities. These kinds of idealized models are also common in biology and medicine. For exam...

Download Gender Equality, Climate Action, and Technological Innovation for Sustainable Development in Africa

Climate change has caused widespread devastation, leading to natural disasters and loss of life around the world. In response, the United Nations has outlined Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action , which proposes concrete steps to address and adapt to the effects of climate change in a way that supports the planet’s long-term sustainability. These initiatives are targeted to be achieved by 2030 . In Africa, women and girls have often been overlooked in climate-related programs, despite being among the most affected—especially as access to essential resources like food and clean water becomes increasingly limited. These shortages directly impact their traditional caregiving roles. Therefore, a meaningful response to climate change must incorporate gender-based analyses across areas such as loss and damage, adaptation, mitigation, financing, and environmental justice. It is crucial that stakeholders focus on creating gender-responsive policies and strategies to ...

Download Credit Networks in The Preindustrial World A Social Network Analysis Approach

Recent years have seen a tremendous increase in scientific literature on social networks. The term "network" is now widely used in several situations. The scholarly community is increasingly interested in the institutions that impact our social and economic life. Matthew Jackson's volume on social network analysis (SNA) emphasizes that networks facilitate human connection. They influence the spread of knowledge and people's decisions. Human networks follow stable and predictable norms, even as they become increasingly complicated over time. Adopting a network perspective is critical for understanding human behavior. The editors of this edition convened a workshop titled "Networks, Behavior, and Strategies in Early Financial Markets" at Stockholm University in October 2022, which resulted in enlightening conversations among the contributors. 5 This volume emphasizes the significance of networks and the usefulness of using a network approach to study his...

Download Informational Privacy for Service Design

Human beings require privacy. We all require a private location where we can feel safe from scrutiny and judgment. In dystopic governments, complete transparency is seen as a violation of freedom. However, those in power prioritize personal privacy. Privacy is a primary priority for policymakers and has become a social concern in many countries, including Europe and China. However, it is unlikely that humans have ever had less privacy. Physical surveillance is pervasive, with cameras deployed by governments on streets, stations, and public transport, companies in shops, and individuals outside their homes. In recent decades, the rise of digital services has led to increased surveillance of personal information. As a result, the private of people's information and data (informational privacy) may not be fully lost, but it is not in excellent shape. Smartphones are mostly used to provide services to users, rather than for communication. Users often pay for services using their...

Download Disruptions, Diversity, and Ethics in Marketing

This study examines the use of bibliometric reviews in marketing literature by conducting a methodical review of 140 papers from the top 47 journals. We analyze bibliometric review methods, focusing on sample size selection, database comprehensiveness, methodological complementariness, theoretical contributions, and practical consequences. Our findings indicate a growing use of bibliometric tools in marketing research. However, worries remain about the rigor and potential impact of bibliometric analysis. We identify avenues for development, including improving sample size and replicability, expanding database coverage, using theory-driven frameworks, and establishing implications for practice. Our guidelines help marketing academics handle bibliometric research successfully and contribute to the growth of marketing studies. Marketing researchers can use bibliometric analysis to gain insights, discover gaps in research, and enhance theory by following recognized rules and reco...

Download Service Innovation and Management

This open access book looks at how digitization and service infusion are transforming service delivery and the consumer experience. It emphasizes the critical role of service management and innovation in bringing these changes to life not only in theory, but also in practice. At the start of the twenty-first century, many industrial companies struggled to capitalize on the financial potential of service enterprises, a situation known as the service paradox. While many manufacturing organizations continue to struggle with this conundrum, several firms (both service and manufacturing) are also dealing with digitization. This issue is known as the digitalization paradox, in which organizations spend in digitalization but fail to achieve the predicted revenue growth. By applying the lens of service innovation to digitalization and service infusion, the book demonstrates how businesses may overcome the service and digitization paradoxes, alter service delivery, and improve the cus...
